Women in Apprenticeships Victoria Electrical (WAVE)
The Women in Apprenticeships Program is an initiative that was created by the ETU Victorian Branch, and delivered by the union's training facility - The Centre for U.
The program aims to increase the number of women entering the electrical trade and support them as they make the transition from an electrical pre-apprenticeship to employment in the electrical industry.
The initial project proposed to attract, recruit and retain women in electrical apprenticeships and all milestones were successfully achieved. It has been so popular that the ETU will be funding and facilitating three groups of WAVE participants in 2023.
Keep an eye on our social media for announcements of intake dates.
If you know anyone who wants to get into the electrical industry and would like further information or to express their interest in the WAVE program please email
Jacinta Bradford.
Try a Trade Days
Introduction to the Electrical Trades for Women Information Sessions
Another initiative by the ETU Victorian Branch is the Try a Trade Day, so come along and hear from women electrical workers and learn about the industry at our Introduction to the Electrical Trades for Women information session.
These informative sessions are held on a Saturday at the ETU offices and provide an opportunity to hear from women across different sectors of the electrical industry and get a chance to ask questions.
You will also hear from the ETU's Centre for U about upcoming pre-apprenticeships and the team from Women Onsite about the support available.
Our next Try a Trade Information Session will be held in early 2023. Keep an eye on our social media for an announcement of the date.
If you know anyone who wants to get into the electrical industry and would like further information or to express their interest in attending the next Try a Trade Day, email Jacinta Bradford.
Share your experiences with us
The ETU is committed to growing the number of women in our trade through initiative like those above. We are keen to hear about your experiences as a woman working in a male dominated industry and sharing those stories as positive case studies that demonstrate why choosing a career in the electrical trade is one of the best choices a woman can make. If you would like to share your experiences of working in the electrical trades with us, please send us an email to: ETU women@etuvic.com.au
