No Room for Racism

There is no room for racism. Our unions will not put up with racism, bullying, sexism or harassment.

Our industry is full of all sorts of people. Tall people, short people, Chinese people, Europeans, Afghans, Christians, Muslims, you name it. Even those scum that barrack for Collingwood. And we should all be mates.

I am just an average Aussie guy who loves my family, eats pies and drinks beer.

But what is an average Aussie guy?

Like many of us, my ancestors migrated here from England and Ireland. I drive an American car and ride a Japanese motorbike. I hang around Poms, Mexicans, Greeks and Africans. I eat Chinese and Italian food. I’m told I look Croatian and my wife is from New Zealand. And I call myself an average Australian. Am I right in doing so?

My point is this. Unless you are a true Aboriginal, your parents or grandparents migrated here from somewhere else. If we all hadn’t come here, we wouldn’t have the great, diverse culture and society that we have today. We wouldn’t have kebabs, chicken parmas or black bean soup.

We are all here for the same reason: to earn a good living and enjoy life. It doesn’t matter where you came from, what colour your skin is or what you believe in. If you love Australia and the way we live, you are an Aussie.

Be proud of what is Australia. After all it is the best country in the world because of what we have all done. We made it this way.

And since you spend a third of your life at work, so you might as well enjoy it and make friendships.

We need to all stick together. Be brothers and sisters. Fight together for our rights and liberties and stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity. Stand up against the bullies and stand up for the bullied. Let’s all do that together. United under the Southern Cross.

There is no room for racism here.
