2016 SHOP STEWARDS CONFERENCE
A record turnout helped make this year’s Shop Stewards Conference our biggest and best yet.
More than 300 Shop Stewards attended the two-day gathering at the Crown Convention Centre, where they discussed the future direction of our union. This year’s theme, ‘‘Strategic Focus Beyond’’, built upon our proud history of success and highlighted the future of our work, our industry and its technology.
Conference delegates heard keynote speeches from Secretary Troy Gray, who delivered a comprehensive ‘‘State of the Union’’ address, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Afghanistan war
veteran and motivational speaker Damien Tomlinson.
Panel discussions tackled the topics of union rights, the royal commission, growing our membership, the federal election campaign and occupational health and safety.
We launched our ‘‘Don’t Work Live’’ campaign at the conference and gave Shop Stewards a preview of our ‘State of Crisis’ campaign for the power industry.
Every Shop Steward was presented
with a copy of our new Members Induction Pack, a portable video tool for recruiting new members that gives them a crash-course education on the history, purpose and culture of the ETU. We hope this tool will assist Shop Stewards in reaching our goal of 20,000 members by 2020. n
