Sparkie Brad Nash and a group of mates will set off on a 10-day trip to Darwin in August as part of the 2016 Variety Club Bash. The ETU Branch Executive has backed Brad and his team with a $5,000 donation and is encouraging members to get behind this inspiring event.
The team of seven, including two boiler makers, two truck drivers, a concreter and a sparkie, have bought and renovated a bus for the trip that they have christened ‘Good Vibrations’. Their aim is to raise $60,000 so they can buy a mini bus for the Officer Specialist School.
ETU members got behind Brad and his team in 2013, helping them to raise more than $63,000 for the Variety Club. For this year’s event they must raise $10,000 to enter, a figure they are confident they will exceed in the lead up to the event.
The Variety Children’s Charity works with families and organisations to support children who are sick,
disadvantaged or have special needs.
‘I’m very lucky to have three healthy kids who don’t need assistance, but it’s so important that we support kids who don’t,’ Brad said. n

fThe Morwell Eagles Junior Football Club was formed in late 2015 through the merger of the Morwell Tigers and the Morwell Youth Club.
Club President Anthony Bloomfield says there has been an enthusiastic response to the merger. ‘There’s a good, positive vibe from the kids which is probably the key to future our growth.’
The ETU has supported the new club, providing sponsorship of $1,000 through our Community Grants Fund. The sponsorship money will be used to finance new uniforms for the kids at low or no cost. n
moUNT BEAUTy mEN’S ShED
After more than four years of hard work, the Mount Beauty & District Men’s Shed opened its doors in February this year. The purpose of the Men’s Shed is to provide a place where men can work on private and community projects and mentor young people.
‘During the process of working together, an invaluable metamorphosis takes place. Members start to talk to each other, mateship develops and men may open up about health problems or pass on helpful information to each other,’ said President Dick Puttyfoot.
The ETU is a proud supporter of the Men’s Shed, and has made a financial contribution through our Community Grants Fund that has assisted with the purchase of a Wet & Dry Pullman Vacuum Cleaner and two welding helmets. n
