ETUVIC Sponsors the National Drag Boat Racing, Series 3, 2017 Championships

The Victorian Drag Boat Club (VDBC) staged the National Racing, Series 3, 2017 Championships on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017, at the National Water Sports Centre (NWSC), Carrum.

"A winters cold snap kept the crowd and attendees down compared to 2016 and previous race events but an enthusiastic crowd witnessed a great day of boat drag races and exhibitions", said Graeme Watson, ETUVIC Executive Member and Club supporter.

ETUVIC once again provided the mobile BBQ trailer for the cooking and preparation of the huge number of meals for the crowd and race crews and the 2017 Variety Bash Bus with the "Woody" Beach Boys Theme, and also sponsored by ETUVIC, was on display at the event.

Pictured left to right with the Variety Bash Bus are: Wendy Howie, VDBC President, Variety Bash Bus Crew Members: Marcus Delaney, Toby Langston and Brad Kruze and ETUVIC Bosch Shop Steward and VDBC Committee Member Shannon Crundwell. *ETUVIC and Variety Bash Bus Member, Brad Nash could not attend due to work commitments.

"The many VDBC Drag Boats with visitors and boats from the Hume Boat Race Club, interstate Hydro Boats from NSW, Show and Shine vehicles and other race boats on display provided fabulous colour to an exciting days racing and even a CFA Fire Truck and Crew invited by the Club attended", said Graeme.

With the NWSC Cable and Water Theme Park now open adjacent to the waterway and with the Daniel Andrews State Government endorsing further development at the Water Sports Centre it was welcome to have the local Labor Member of Parliament, Tim Richardson invited to the event. "Tim has been an active local MP in supporting the Club for some time enjoying previous Club meetings and with his ongoing support for all of the NWSC facilities and other Users of the waterway means that future events will only grow", said Graeme.

"Apart from the excitement of the Drag Boat Racing the vision of Labor Premier, Joan Kirner in the late 1980's to endorse the construction of the National Water Sports Centre (NWSC) at Carrum for use by the community and boating enthusiasts of all kinds is finally being realised", said Graeme.
